Wonderfully Windy Wellington

On Saturday we flew off to Windy Wellington for a couple of nights away.  Last year at a Golf Club function, Wayne and a golfing buddy won a couple of nights accommodation each.  After the particularly hard last year we were now finally able to use them.

We booked our accommodation at the Copthorne on Oriental Bay.  As the hotel is built up against the hillside I thought we would have a room with a view of the Harbour.

But alas no Sad Smiley Face

I really wouldn’t have minded if the Hotel was full, and they then put the non paying guests out the back, but when the hotel was no way near full, a room with a view would have been nice.  I can’t fault the rooms themselves, they were clean and comfortable.  The desk staff were nice, but wow if your staying at the Copthorne there should be a warning sign for their barmaid.  She seriously needs some hospitality training.  Someone should tell her that a snarl is not a smile nor is it nice for us to deal with.  If she didn’t want to be there, which she certainly gave the impression of,  she should leave the job.

But the rest of Wellington turned on a great weekend.  The weather was great (only a little windy), we shopped, played tourist, laughed a lot, ate a lot and drank our way around the city.  As always Wellington turned on its best.  Such a great city.

Sunday night we had dinner at Ortega Fish Shack.  I cant praise this place enough.  The food was divine, the service was even better (perhaps the barmaid from the Copthorne should go and see how its done).  I had heard of this restaurant before I got to Wellington, and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

As always, when your nearly home again, your thoughts are running ahead to the next adventure……… Look out Awakeri Hot Springs we are heading your way.
